At Novo Surgical, we know that the best surgeons deserve the best surgical equipment. It is the surgeons with passion and heart that truly inspire us every day as we offer best-in-class quality instrumentation. In Cape Breton, we found those inspiring surgeons!
We were contacted by RN Tiffany Boudreau of Cape Breton Surgeons on a Mission, a volunteer group of medical professionals from Nova Scotia devoted to improving the lives of the poorest people in Guatemala City. She informed us that every year, they travel to Guatemala for weeks-long stays performing life-saving operations for the people who need them most. Some of the surgeries they perform include hernia repairs, tumor removals, and cholecystectomies.
These procedures, easily available in wealthier countries, are hard to come by in Guatemala. Due to their pay-as-you-go healthcare system, the poor often cannot pay for these necessary procedures. They are often left with the choice of being too sick to provide for their families, or going into massive amounts of debt that cripple their family financially.
This is where the Cape Breton surgeons truly shine. Not only do they volunteer their time to provide life-saving operations, but for their patients, it is entirely free! Through innovative fundraising efforts, the team raises enough money to pay for room and board for their patients as they stay in the hospital. Team members also keep costs low by paying out-of-pocket for their own airfare.

The Cape Breton surgeons are lighting the way in volunteer healthcare. Although our donation of colorful bandage scissors brightened many young patients’ faces, it is the doctors and nurses on this team that truly brightened their lives.
We are proud of every member of the Cape Breton Surgeons on a Mission team. Your dedication to the people of Guatemala and to improving their healthcare is unmatched, and we hope to support this team in many trips to come!
